High Honours

High Honours Awarded In Martial Arts

David Watson’s School of Martial Arts had their latest grading last month which saw six students move up in grades and two become teachers. The students are taught elements of both karate and kung fu, which include single stick combat, defence against bladed weapons and practical self defence. “All our students have put in a lot of effort this year,” Sifu (teacher), David Watson said.

The two students who made the great move to Sifu, Cameron Dunn and Anna Nickless, have both been working extremely hard at their skills. Dunn has been at the school since November 2007 and has earned himself the title of first degree black belt. Sifu Watson said, Cameron has applied himself 100 per cent plus. Nickless started in March 2008 and has received the second degree black belt as well as Chief Instructor of Tai Chi Yang (short form). “She is an extremely dedicated student,” Sifu Watson said.

The classes are open to all starting from the age of eight-years-old and are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6pm at the Cambridge Primary school hall (on Wilson Street). Phone 021 644 189.
